Who We Are

Franwell is a leader in the research, development, and implementation of RFID technology for supply chain operations. Franwell engineers have more than 20 years experience providing software solutions for a variety of suppliers, with more than a decade focused on the use of RFID for the purpose of providing real-time inventory visibility. Franwell's software systems are built using Microsoft technologies. In addition to our EPC compliant RFID systems, Franwell offers consulting expertise, as well as a complete set of RFID integration services to help our clients obtain a long term ROI for their investment.

Where We've Been and Where We're Going

Jeff Wells, our CEO, utilized his experience leading research and development projects for other successful enterprises prior to teaming up with Ernie Francise and John Stephens, to start Horizon Computer Systems in 1984. Our executive trio, entrepreneurs as well as software programmers and systems engineers, incorporated Franwell in June of 1993, and the company was known as Franwell Software, Inc. from 1999-2004. Although reorganized, Franwell has continued to build upon the customer relationships originally established with Horizon Computer Systems. Our home office is located in Lakeland, Florida. Brief Biography

Franwell is proud to be an Associate member of the University of Florida Research Center for Food Distribution and Retailing (CFDR). We are engaged in an ongoing project testing extensively the use of radio frequency identification technology as it relates to each link of the food supply chain and, in particular, finding means of overcoming the unique challenges that product moisture content and packaging presents to RF reception and transmission. At the CFDR, Franwell is responsible for the contribution, installation, and maintenance of the RFID technology used in the lab.  

In addition to contributing to the development of the RFID lab at the University of Florida, at our Franwell headquarters we have our own RFID labs. Our working lab is for development and construction purposes and our show lab is not only a test site, but also a location for scheduled RFID demonstrations. A permanent display at the CHEP Innovations Center in Orlando is home to a four-part RFID demonstration, of which two stations were developed by Franwell, for supply chain with EPCnet connectivity.

Our Agware® system, an enterprise software solution for the perishable foods industry, as well as our farm management application, were designed with a solid firsthand working knowledge of the agricultural/perishable foods industry. A tremendous expenditure of time has been invested in learning how our clients operate their businesses and understanding their specific needs. We have integrated RFID technology with Agware to make an excellent ERP/WMS even better.
